The Ground Zero walking tour

A guide with a personal connection to 9/11 leads a small group past St. Paul's Chapel, the FDNY Memorial Wall, the Survivor Tree and the two pools. It's the cheapest well-rated way to understand the site, with the Museum as an add-on you choose yourself.

9/11 Memorial & Ground Zero Walking Tour

About this experience

This is the ExperienceFirst walk that more than 7,000 reviewers have rated, and it's the core of the All Access day without the tickets. You meet inside the Oculus and walk to St. Paul's Chapel, which survived the collapse one block away. Then the FDNY Memorial Wall and Ten House, the firehouse across from the site, and finally the Memorial with its two reflecting pools in the footprints of the towers.

The guided part is about 90 minutes by the listing's itinerary. The four hours in the trip length assume you add the Museum afterwards. You can pick a skip-the-line ticket to go in on your own, or the VIP option with a docent-led small-group tour inside. Without either, the guide says goodbye at the pools and the rest of your day is free.

Read the checkout carefully. The listing says plainly that Museum admission is not included unless you select it, and a September 2026 guest who thought the Museum was part of the tour did not get in. Groups top out at 15, and one September 2026 guest said the pace was too fast for a companion with a bad knee, so tell the guide early if anyone in your party walks slowly.

  • More than 7,000 reviews at 4.8 stars
  • Small groups of 15 at most
  • Guides with a personal connection to 9/11
  • St. Paul's Chapel, the FDNY Wall and Ten House, the Survivor Tree, both pools
  • Museum ticket or docent tour as an optional upgrade

What guests say

★★★★★

This tour was incredible! Rob the tour guide was fascinating and engaging, as he told the story of that fateful day I was transported back 25 years.. [...] The museum was very moving and I highly recommend this. My daughter wasn’t born until 2007 so this was such an education for her and she thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the museum

Very interesting and moving experience. My guide, Maya, struck a nice balance between conveying the tragedy and solemnity of 9/11 and the hope for the future and enduring spirit of New York and the USA. Definitely recommend.

Our tour guide Jaclyn was absolutely amazing. She is extremely knowledgeable and provided so many important key facts about 9/11 I had no idea about. I was also impressed that she learns a new name on the memorial when they do the birthday white roses. [...]

Jim Quinn ( guide ) was amazing on this tour. He was 27 blocks away when the planes hit and details his experience at that time along with the history since 9/11. Highly recommend this tour!! [...]

Tips before you book

  • Tick the Museum option at checkout if you want to go inside. It is not part of the base price.
  • Around 11 September the Museum can close early. One guest wrote in September 2026 that they were denied entry because it closed early the day before the anniversary.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and bring a layer: the listing asks for both, and most of the walk is outdoors.
  • Tips for the guide are not included in the price.
  • Look for the white roses on the parapets: staff place one at a name on that person's birthday.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 9/11 Museum included in the Ground Zero walking tour?

No, not in the base price. You can add a skip-the-line Museum ticket or a VIP docent-led Museum tour at checkout. Without the upgrade, the tour ends at the Memorial pools.

How long is the Ground Zero walking tour?

The guided walk takes about 90 minutes. With the Museum upgrade, plan on up to four hours in total.

How big are the groups?

15 travelers at most, according to the listing. One reviewer still found the group a little big, so expect it to be full in busy months.

Is it suitable for children?

Children from 4 pay the child rate and those 3 and under go free. The Museum's historical exhibition may not suit under-10s; see our guide to visiting with kids.
